Now and in the future
On May 3, 2020, the foundation was laid for what will form our central waste processing point for now and the near future. The facility consists of 3 ares of land (expandable to 15 ares) with a sheltered workspace, an office, sanitary facilities and two machines, an electrically driven hydraulic press and a glass pulverizer. It was delivered on July 28 and from that date we were fully operational and we could start processing and shipping the waste that we had collected through clean-up campaigns in the previous months.
In August the introduction of the Bank Sampah system started. The first participating community was the village where our foundation is located; Batunungul.
Since then, the number of participating municipalities has increased to 17 (out of a total of 51) and 2 to 3 are added per month. It is expected that CleanPenida will be able to provide more than 70% of the local population with a waste collection service before the end of 2023.
The foundation has the following goals for this year:
- The purchase of one or more pick-up trucks (Suzuki Carry or similar)
- Expansion of and and workspace
- Purchase of cleaning station and shredder
- Placement of waste bins on strategic places (3-way system; organic, plastic, other) voor (gescheiden) inzameling op drukke plaatsen.
- Extension of educational program at schools and local communities
